The Titans win their fourth straight over Hempfield 33-17 to remain perfect on the year. Unlike in previous games, the team’s play was far from perfect. They committed 10 penalties for 90 yards, and those penalties happened at inopportune times. Regardless, the Titans were able to do enough to win and were highlighted once again by the excellent play of WPIAL passing leader Keegan Smetanka, who accounted for nearly 300 passing yards and four total touchdowns. The turning point in the game came midway through the fourth quarter when Hempfield quarterback Keiran Lippmann overthrew an open receiver in the endzone on fourth down to turn it over. If he completed that pass, Hempfield would have taken the lead. On the very next play, Smetanka threw an 80 yard bomb to Joe Desabato to put Hempfield away for good. Also important to note, Mark Povich took over at kicker after Douglas missed an extra point and proceeded to make all five of his kicks (2 field goals and 3 extra points). Additionally, Joe Rispoli left the game in the first half with likely a fractured wrist/forearm and it is currently not known how long he will be out. That puts even more strain on a depleted middle linebacker room with Carson Pierce injured and not set to return until the North Hills game.
Final Stats:
Smetanka: 19/26 for 285 passing yards and 3 touchdown passes, plus 1 rushing touchdown
(Smetanka has now thrown for 1,000 yards on the season)
Desabato: 7 receptions for 186 yards and 2 touchdowns
Rozzo: 19 carries for 105 yards
London: 1 receiving touchdown
Ben Yeckel: 1 sack
Connor Lunn: 1 sack
Povich: 2/2 FG (34, 28), 3/3 XP
Jordan Winters and Ryan Barnhart led the team in tackles
