From what started off as a season that only had two eligible bowlers, the Girls Bowling team would go on an 8-2 record and have a shot at competing for the State Championship.
Before the season even started, the Titans had to fill a roster just to be able to compete.
Even though the team got filled before the season started, it can still be hard to find a bond with new teammates. Regardless of the new players, the Titans built strong bonds with each other.
“Chloe (Maurer) and I were on the team the year before, but adding new girls to the team strengthened our relationship. The five of us see each other in school and having team bonding activities helped us have better chemistry,” sophomore Brooke Callahan said.
The Titans had a successful regular season. They had to fight through a limited practice schedule since they could only get a minimal amount of practice time on the lanes. Bowlers would have to put in practice away from the team to get their work in. At the end of the day, they finished with an overall record of 8-2.
In the postseason, the Titans had strong showings. In the WPIBL Singles Championship, Callahan rolled a 421 3-game series which qualified her for the Western PA Regional. In the WPIBL Team Championships, The Titans came in 17th place which qualified them for the Western PA Regional.
“Considering we did not even have a full team back in November, the moment the announcement at the WPIBL Championships of Western PA Regional qualifiers was made, we were the very final team to punch our ticket. It was very exciting and special for all of us,” Pilyih said.
At the Regional Championships, Callahan rolled a 759 5-game series which netted her in 39th place out of 69 bowlers. On the team side, the Titans finished in 29th place with a score of 2346.
The team which started out as only having two eligible bowlers ended up making it to the Western PA Regional Championship. The Titans will be ready to compete next year as they only lose one bowler.
“The girls team was made up of four sophomores and one junior exchange student, so we are a young squad and those girls will be ready to compete at a higher level next year,” Pilyih said.
