Teacher Feature: Mrs. Kristen Barie

For this weeks teacher feature, we interviewed Mrs. Kristen Barie, one of the Latin teachers at Shaler Area High School!

Q: How long have you been teaching ?

A: I have been teaching at Shaler for 27 years.

Q: What are all the classes you teach?

A: I teach Latin one, Latin three, Latin four, and Latin five.

Q: Favorite class to teach and why?

A: My favorite class to teach is definitely Latin three because I love grammar. Like, I love grammar.

Q: What is your favorite Latin holiday?

A: Saturnalia is my favorite holiday, which is the Christmas one.

Q: Favorite characters from the Latin books?

A: Dido and Juno.

Toyota Corolla

Q: What was your first car?

A: In high school, I drove a Toyota Corolla. The first car I had coming out of college that I bought with my own money was a Honda Civic.

Q: What is your favorite student slang?

A: Yeah ‘bro’ is probably my top one.

Q: What would your last meal be?

A: My last meal would probably be something Mexican. I love Mexican food!

Q: Most irresponsible purchase?

Mrs. Barie’s favorite drink, the dragon fruit refresher!

A: My most irresponsible purchase is probably Starbucks, because I get it every day. If I get it in the morning, I get pumpkin spice. Then I also get a dragon fruit drink everyday.

Q: If you had a free night, what would you do?

A: If I had a free night I would definitely go shopping or sleep. I love to take naps and I like just walking around. 

Q: If you could go back to any time period, what period would you go to?

A: I would go back to either the 20s, 50s, or 60s. I think that would be kind of cool.

Q: If you could own any exotic pet, what would it be?

A: I think those lizards are kind of cool looking. I don’t want to touch them and stuff but I like looking at them.

Q: What was your favorite concert you ever went to?

A: My favorite concert was Elton John, for sure.

Q: Any advice you would give to your younger self?

A: Don’t stress. Things end up working out the way they’re supposed to at the time. You may not see it but they do end up working out.
