Each and every season the majority of sports teams set goals for that season. These goals change yearly depending on new team members, the goals may be big or small, but sports are all about slow steps to rebuild for a great year. This year the Lady Titan Golf Team set a list of goals and achieved the majority of them.
Their first goal was to win some matches, which they were able to accomplish.
“We won two matches this season legitimately, meaning we outshot the other team as our previous wins were by forfeit. This was a huge accomplishment. I was so proud of the girls when they achieved this.” head coach Mr. Anthony Prodente said.
The second goal was to consistently shoot under 200 in their matches. In 5 out of 11 matches, the Titans achieved this goal with a team average of 203.
“Last year, our average was 214, so we improved by 11 strokes. On top of that, we recorded our best team score in six years—an incredible 180,” Coach Prodente said.
Their third goal was to have a player compete in the sectionals. Junior Isabella Sciulli accomplished this goal by going to sectionals and performing well.
“Izzy is only the fifth girl in Shaler Girls’ Golf history to qualify for sectionals. She’s made me look like a great coach. She’s a real competitor, giving 200% in everything she does,” Coach Prodenete said.
Their final goal was to improve individual averages.
“I’m happy to say that everyone on the team has done that, but it’s not just about scores, they’ve all grown in their sportsmanship and maturity as well,” Coach Prodente said.
Becoming a team essentially happens by working together and sharing the memories that are made, good or bad. Every single member of the team has had these memories, without having bad and good memories a athlete would never be able to grow as an athlete and even as a person.
Another aspect of a good team is having good leaders. Coach Prodente was quick to acknowledge his three seniors this year who provided that for his team.
“Katelyn Heinauer has been the glue that holds the team together. Acting as team secretary, Katelyn kept everyone informed and made sure things ran smoothly. She also made great improvements in her game, with phenomenal drives. Noelle Roth is one of our top players. I’ve known Noelle for six years, and she’s improved immensely over time. Noelle took on a leadership role this year, helping with team decisions and working hard to motivate her teammates. Kaysia Chelli brings so much to this team. She’s our equipment manager, team comedian, and sandwich supplier! Kaysia has been with me for four years, and she improves each season. She has a way of lifting everyone’s spirits, and we’re going to miss her positive energy next year,” Coach Prodente said.
