With football season coming to an end there is still one game left to play at Shaler Area. The annual PowderPuff will take place on Tuesday, November 26 at 7 p.m. at Biles Field.
The annual game between the seniors and the juniors is to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. At the gate, the fans will make a $5 donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. There will also be a 50/50 raffle run by the seniors and the junior class will be running a concession stand.
The coaching match up has been the same the past three years. Mr. Ben Yeckel has lost two of the last three years to Mr. Bill Mitchell. Mr. Yeckel’s last win came two years ago with the senior class of 2023.
This year the teams have a lot more players compared to prior years. The senior class has 36 girls playing this year and the junior class has 33 players which is the most juniors to participate in a long time.
With the seniors having played last year Yeckel believes that the seniors will be able to play like an experienced group out there.
“Since the seniors had the experience last season, I don’t expect that initial shock of OMG what do I do. They will be ready for the speed of the game,” Mr. Yeckel said.
With most games in the past years being low scoring, Mr. Yeckel predicts that he and his senior coaching staff will prevail in a 14-6 win over the juniors.
With it being the last year for the seniors to play in the annual game, some girls didn’t play last year and are excited to play with their friends while participating and giving back to charity.
“I signed up to be able to spend time with my friends while doing something fun and I’m excited for us to win as seniors,” senior Lydia Delp said.
