If you’re familiar with the world of music and pop culture, then February 2nd is definitely a day that’s on your radar. The annual Grammy Awards will be taking place for the 67th time this year, and the wide range of nominees are going to provide a spectacular competition. Though there are many awards to distribute and receive this year, four categories rise to the top that the public cannot stop talking about. That of course will be Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.
Arguably the most important category of the night will be Album of the Year. Previous and well-known winners of this award include Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Bob Dylan, just to name a few. The nominees this year will include:
- New Blue Sun (André 3000)
- Cowboy Carter (Beyoncé)
- Short n’ Sweet (Sabrina Carpenter)
- Brat (Charli XCX)
- Djesse Vol 4 (Jacob Collier)
- Hit Me Hard and Soft (Billie Eilish)
- The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (Chappell Roan)
- The Tortured Poets Department (Taylor Swift)
The nominees this year bring so much to the table. However, I believe that the Academy will vote for Ms. Swift to take home her fifth Album of the Year award, even though she’s already broken the record with the most times to win it. I would love to see Billie Eilish to pull through. Beyoncé is still a projected winner, as she is leading the category. Many on social media are rooting for Billie Eilish or Sabrina Carpenter to take it all, even though Beyonce or Swift are most likely to be announced as the winner.
Another category within the “Big Four” is Record of the Year. The nominees for this prestigious award have an interesting lineup. The candidate this year include:
- Now and Then (The Beatles)
- TEXAS HOLD ‘EM (Beyoncé)
- Espresso (Sabrina Carpenter)
- 360 (Charli XCX)
- BIRDS OF A FEATHER (Billie EIlish)
- Not Like Us (Kendrick Lamar)
- Good Luck, Babe! (Chappell Roan)
- Fortnight (Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone)
Most of these nominees have gone popular all over social media, but the one that has not had much social media traction, Now and Then, I predict will win. Fortnight and TEXAS HOLD ‘EM are strong contenders based on how many awards they have previously won, but I would love to see Espresso pull through and win.
The third most popular category is Best New Artist, and the competition this year looks as though it’s going to be a tough award to receive. The nominees this year make for one of the best lineups that I’ve seen for a while. The nomination list includes:
- Benson Boone
- Sabrina Carpenter
- Doechii
- Khruangbin
- RAYE
- Chappell Roan
- Shaboozey
- Teddy Swims
Whether you’re a fan of these artists or have no idea who they are, they are all bound to make an impact on the music industry. I predict that either Benson Boone or Chappell Roan will receive this award, though I would love to see RAYE receive it. It just so happens that Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are not new artists, but they are just now gaining traction due to new music releases, so maybe any nominee who falls into that category won’t be a promising contender.
The final big award of the night is Song of the Year, and this one decides what song will be remembered when someone thinks of 2024. The nominees are common names in the list at this point, which include:
- Fortnight (Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone)
- BIRDS OF A FEATHER (Billie Eilish)
- NOT LIKE US (Kendrick Lamar)
- Please Please Please (Sabrina Carpenter)
- A Bar Song (Tipsy) (Shaboozey)
- Good Luck, Babe! (Chappell Roan)
- Die With a Smile (Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars)
- TEXAS HOLD ‘EM (Beyoncé)
This list alone is incredible, and this award is going to be an insane competition to win with all of the great options. I believe that the Academy will vote for Shaboozey or Beyoncé, but I would love to see the winner be Die With a Smile or Good Luck, Babe!
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards have tons of more categories, but these most popular ones are bound to create competition and maybe even a little drama. Make sure to tune in on Sunday, February 2nd, at 8 p.m. to see who will be declared the winners.
