The Shaler Area boys Bowling team managed to have a very successful year, despite losing their top bowler from last year. They started the season off strong with many new players looking to carry on what the seniors started the year before.
“Somehow, the guys stepped up and we really didn’t lose a step from last season. We did have some ups and downs that we went through this year, but the boys overcame those adversities and really pulled through as a team,” Coach Shawn Pilyih said.
The boys really showed what they were capable of by finishing 2nd in the section, and had a nice showing in the WPIBL championships, as well as the Western PA Regional Championships.
Noah Lang was a large factor towards this team’s success by earning himself the title of the Section MVP. He finished 6th in the WPIBL Singles championships. Other players qualified for spots as well, such as Luke Jarosinski and Jacob Costa. Lang was 2nd for the highest average in the section with a 189.63, and he also had the highest game of the season with a 288.
Tyler Woistman was able to secure himself the highest average in the section, with a 196.07. Both Lang and Woistman also competed in the single portions of the Western PA Regionals.
While those individuals had impressive seasons, the team as a whole had a great season and came very close to winning a section championship.
“We had two very challenging matches which were both against Deer Lakes. We split our season matches against them. We defeated them at their home center and then they defeated us at our home center,” said Coach Pilyih.
Despite splitting two matches with Deer Lakes, the Titans lost by an additional point which gave Deer Lakes the section championship.
Even with all of the team and individual success, the Titans are always looking for ways to improve.
“We could always improve our spare shooting every year, that is what makes or breaks how far a team can go,” Coach Pilyih said.
